We are seeking a dedicated Teaching Technician Farm Assistant to join our team at the Large Animal Teaching Unit (LATU), part of Tāwharau Ora, the University’s School of Veterinary Science. This role involves supporting the seamless operation of our unit and contributing to the overall success of our educational programs.

This is a part-time 12-month fixed-term position (nominally 18.75 hours per week) and is based on our Manawatū Campus in Palmerston North.

Ko wai mātou | About us

LATU is an extensively used facility for practical large animal teaching to both Veterinary and Animal Science students. The buildings occupy approximately 2,000 m2 of covered space and sit on 83ha of farmland devoted to the teaching animal herds. The LATU facilities include modern roofed yards for handling large animals, stalls and an arena for examining horses and cattle, plus sheep handling facilities. We maintain a dry dairy herd, a tame mixed‐age cow herd, 30 horses, pigs, alpacas and several hundred sheep.

  • Additional Qualities: A proactive attitude, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively within a team as you support our academic staff with teaching requirements for practical classes. A clean driver's license is essential.
  • Team Spirit: A positive, enthusiastic approach to teamwork is essential as you interact with and provide guidance, support and training to our undergraduate students.

The salary range for this role is based on skills and experience, ranging from $48,036 - $63,675 (NZD).

We are looking for a dedicated individual who is eager to contribute and adapt to the dynamic needs of our unit.  This position may suit either a Veterinary Technician or an individual with a strong farming background.
